  1. What about characteristics of Alice Walker's writing style as a whole? Not just of the abolitionist writers, but in general, and with her other books?

  2. I thought you did a really great job in your presentation of explaining how the literary devices in The Color Purple enhanced or created the meaning. I have never read a novel or story that was entirely in epistolary form (I also did not know that a novel full of letters was categorized as epistolary), so this was an interesting part of your presentation for me. I noticed that this, as well as slave narrative and religion, was a technique commonly used by abolitionist writers, and Alice Walker incorporated all three.

The other literary technique that I found interesting was the foil character. In your book especially it seems like this would be an important aspect, because Shug Avery is the one person who can really highlight her good characteristics. Shug Avery also ties in very well with the title, and I thought an analysis of the title was a good way to leave the audience with a final message. I was curious about where the title when you began your presentation, and this final analysis gave me the ‘deeper meaning’ that I was looking for.
